DUNIA Magazine and its Women Are Core initiative invite you to a 3K Run/Walk for the women of South Sudan. A united front… a healthy run… a fun family affair, followed by an evening of multi-cultural entertainment on September 20th, 2014 in Atlanta, GA. The Run/Walk, now an annual event, promises to be a melting pot of different cultures for the Afrikan woman, who will “never have to walk alone again”.
The main objectives of this year’s 3K Run/Walk include:
• To support organizations on the ground in the country that are actively involved in improving literacy in South Sudan where only 1 in 10 South Sudanese women are able to read and write.
• To raise awareness and encourage participants to support organizations involved in the healthcare sector of the country where 1 in 7 South Sudanese women will die in pregnancy or childbirth.
Due to the ongoing conflict in South Sudan which started in December of 2013, UN numbers show that over half of the population is displaced from their homes and are living in camps.
Run with Us!
South Sudan only gained independence in 2011. Our primary goal is to help raise awareness about the challenges faced by South Sudanese women.
