Cecil was Zimbabwe’s most famous lion and main touristic attraction at the Hwange National Park, the country’s largest game reserve. The 13 year old lion was noticeable friendly to visitors.
The lion was reportedly shot by Walter Palmer an American dentist who may have paid up to $50,000 for the hunt in Zimbabwe. Palmer could also face charges.
Hunter Theo Bronkhorst (left) and landowner Honest Ndlovu (pictured below), alledged to have setup the hunt were arrested Tuesday July 28th on poaching charges. Both posted bail of £638 and were released today Wednesday July 29th. Each faces up to 15 years in prison if found guilty.
