Senegal is located in western Africa. Its neighboring countries include The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali and Mauritania.
Muslims make up a little over 95% of the country’s 13,975,834 population (July 2015 est.); and Christians 4%. Main ethnic groups in Senegal include the Wolof (38.7%), Pular (26.5%), Serer (15%), then Mandinka, Jola, Soninke, and others.
Although French is the official language, most Senegalese speak ethnic languages, Wolof being the most popular. Dakar (home to some 2 million residents) is the capital and largest city in Senegal.
