Written to remind us of the natural joys of Love and of lovin’…
LOVE WINS, PRIDE LOSES
by Lema M. Abeng
Glaring stacks of grudges,
proudly sitting on a shelf-full of Unforgiveness;
These glittery trophies of brass,
of what value are they?
Possessing the owner, alienating the other
Some call it grandiloquence, others flattery, control, pain or simply just Pride.
Meanwhile permit us to journey into loveland.. first
where Love snuck up on the heart while we went about our day;
When and how did Love manage to do so? I cannot tell.
Was it something we read,
a word they may have said,
Or was it simply meant to be?
Love is born of compassion,
Love heals, love hums softly
Pride is born of fear,
Pride burns, pride agitates strongly.
Love may be slow to catch on,
but Pride rushes to take over quickly
Though Pride may seem towering in the now,
Pride’s influence only lasts a short time;
Where there is Love,
her effect brews over a Lifetime.
Why sentence ourselves to the dry desert of egotism,
While God’s lush Field of Love
lays beckoning close by.
On cloud-9 with Love, or
on cold-floor of Pride
Prefer thee to lay down?
Warm smile of love, cold stare of pride
Warm abundance of love, bitter drought of pride
Far from the valley of pride,
hilly peaks of Love invite…
“come with me, hearty, beautiful, cherishable.
Leave pride behind, drive into sunshine of love,
here happiness awaits, and, the soul runs wild and free”
All fear is gone, for perfect love casts out fear.
