Statistics indicate that some four million Americans suffer from Sjogren’s Syndrome, an autoimmune disease that affects certain glands in the eyes and mouth. Women are more likely to be affected by Sjogren’s than men; people of all races, ages and ethnicities can be affected by this condition.
Other examples of autoimmune diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, systemic lupus erythematosus, type 1 diabetes mellitus, and many others.
According to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association, more than 23.5 million Americans are living with some form of autoimmune disease.
