Every so often, one meets a person who is dedicated to their work and is all about purpose. Florence Musengi, a businesswoman, author and executive coach, is one of those.
Her work revolves around the empowerment of others so that they can realize and own their greatness.
Through her coaching and mentorship programs, masterclass sessions, books and motivational speaking, Florence’s reach extends from across South Africa (where she is originally from) to the world beyond.
Women are at the core of Ms. Musengi’s work for as she says, “An empowered woman is powerful beyond measure, beautiful beyond description.”
It was a pleasure to chat with Florence Musengi on behalf of DUNIA Magazine.
DUNIA Magazine: Welcome to DUNIA, Florence. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Florence Musengi: Florence Musengi is a child of God, an accomplished businesswoman with strides as an executive in large corporates.
I am an empowerment speaker, preacher, and founder of empowerment circle ‘You Are Worth It’ where I run Masterclasses around the world.
I am best-selling author of Woman At The Top, a leadership development book, challenging women everywhere to aspire to greatness.
I live in Pretoria, South Africa with my family.
Having worked for Paramount South Africa, Saab AB, and other companies; along with owning your own business, you have been gifted with extensive corporate experience. How does such experience influence your coaching?
Florence Musengi: Being a certified executive and professional coach, the vast and versatile skills and experience gained during my corporate years enable me to provide a unique thought-process and leadership guidance when coaching. My corporate experience allows thinking outside the box as someone that was inside the corporate box and jungle for so many years.
Being someone who follows your work, I have noticed that you lay emphasis on self-awareness, self-worth, and other qualities along those lines. What is the importance of self-awareness in leadership?
Florence Musengi: Self-awareness gives clarity to a vision. The more self-aware you are the more real you become. In order to learn, grow and develop, one needs to observe, acknowledge and work with your current reality. I always say it takes courage to be completely honest with yourself. The way one shows up in the world is an indication of personal mastery, which starts with self-awareness. It is about seeing reality as it is clearly.
Congratulations on publishing your second book You Are Worth It. What can the audience expect and take away from reading your books?
Florence Musengi: The journey of writing is borne out of fluctuations of life, often glamorous out there, but with a lot of burns and detours along the way.
Growing up my mother used to say; “Experience is the best teacher”. It is such experience that got me to start writing to empower others. My first book was to challenge all women to aspire to greatness. You Are Worth It is affirmation that every being is worthy no matter the level you find yourself in.
Being worthy is taking cognisance of your deficits in life. One cannot be a master at everything, I say in my book. Recognise your weaknesses and capitalise on your strengths.
Transformers are stronger in dark places, often lonely and lost.
Could you share with us, some of your core values as a South African?
Florence Musengi: The way I love to describe values is like having a crystal ball and a rubber ball. What’s crystal in life, you hold unto tightly such that it doesn’t drop, otherwise you lose it. Whereas if it’s rubber, it bounces back.
So know what’s crystal in your life, those are the treasures to take along. Meanwhile, the rubber you can always park.
People often clutter themselves with rubber, it’s not valuable to carry along. Many of us cannot distinguish between the two and we tend to lose focus of what is valuable and crystal. Know Your Worth Know Your Value.
Thank you so much for spending time with us today. In conclusion, what should readers look out for from Florence Musengi in the near future?
Florence Musengi: The vison God gave me is to continue touching lives of women around the world through my empowerment masterclasses. I love collaboration with other women and I intent to forge ahead.
On the business front, I want to see my engineering consulting company grow from strength to strength providing high-tech engineers in various areas of cyber-security and digital space.
I would like to collaborate with other women in communication, media, and brand and reputation management. With more hybrid work, I plan to promote my executive and professional coaching across the globe.
