We are counting down to 2 years since DUNIA was announced to the public, the vision of a magazine that would connect people across cultures and present all that is real and often positive about everyday individuals across the world. Since then, I can honestly tell you that we have received messages of how our readers are being inspired and their lives touched by the stories DUNIA continues to bring. The feedback continues to be warm like this note I recently received from Dr. Khaemba when he discovered DUNIA for the first time, “You have a great magazine! I particularly love the title… Dunia! I am sure you know that “Dunia” means “the World” in Kiswahili, a language that is widely spoken in East Africa and neighboring countries! I quickly browsed through the online mag and it is very impressive!”
Personally as the Chief-Editor, my life has been impacted in many ways and I have been extremely humbled by this experience so far. Just a little background about me: I have always been somewhat of a driven individual, probably due to the fact that I am the first of 7 kids my parents had and I always took my responsibilities towards family seriously; I have always wanted to set a good example for my siblings and cousins who look up to me. On top of that, I also decided that being self-employed would work best for me, and so I became an entrepreneur in my mid twenties.
In my journey as an entrepreneur, I noticed early that it was important to learn and embrace success principles. Success is not all about ‘talent’ I learned; it’s a number of ingredients that must be technically combined to create the results you are looking for – it’s about skill, the people you associate with, your work ethic, mindset, core principles, goals, purpose, etc that must be weaved together to achieve everyday greatness. So I became a student of success and I still am.
With DUNIA, another dimension was added: I have also become a student of people … come to think of it, life boils down to people – whether you are in business, an employee, a philanthropist, a student – you have to deal with people at some level either as customers/clients, bosses, colleagues, teachers, parents, spouses, in-laws, you name it. Often, these people think differently, have different talents and are motivated by different things. Understanding them and being able to figure out what makes them tick, is a mark of the successful.
DUNIA offers that link. In reading our articles, you get an understanding of the workings of the minds of individuals in a variety of spectrums.
This journey with DUNIA has been great. My team and I continue to learn from you and we hope most importantly that you the reader are empowered, educated and inspired … and hey, entertained!
Some of the best tips and words of wisdom are not always found in books, you get them from having meaningful conversations with a neighbor… that person who may not have trophys lined up on their shelves, but has experienced life richly.
With DUNIA, there are no limits because we are all colorful, unique, and rich in our life journey. We each have a story to tell … one that should be shouted from the roof-tops. I now know without the shadow of a doubt that no human being is superior to another, for everything that you lose, you gain something, and in that which seems, something else is added.
I must sincerely thank our contributors. DUNIA has been so blessed with such a talented group who send in articles regularly from Portugal to Finland, The United Kingdom to the United States, Cameroon to Bahrain … your articles are what give DUNIA THAT SPECIAL FLAVOR. The difference you are making is immeasurable. Now, that’s what I call ‘purpose’!
The next time you meet someone from another culture, ask them, “What’s your story?” You’ll be intrigued.
