1. The stomach produces digestive juices whose primary function is to break down food components. Consisting mainly of Hydrochloric acid, digestive juices, which mainly consist of Hydrochloric Acid, are hot and corrosive, and can melt Zinc.
The stomach produces a new lining every 3 days in order to avoid digesting itself.
2. No two people have the exact same odor-identity. Our smells are determined by factors ranging from genes, diet, skin type, hormones and mood, to substances we ingest such as food and medicine.
Our noses have the ability to remember nearly 50,000 different smells, mostly from memory.
3. The production of saliva by salivary glands into the oral cavity is mainly stimulated by the presence of food (or other irritating substances in the mouth), thoughts of food or smell of food.
In your lifetime, you will produce enough saliva to fill two swimming pools.
4. Sneezing is the body’s way of removing an irritation from the nose. A combination of muscles involved in the process include abdominal muscles, chest muscles, the diaphragm, muscles that control vocal cords, muscles in the back of your throat and eyelid muscles.
A sneeze can exceed the speed of 100 mph.
5. The brain, which described as the most complex part of the human body only weighs around 3 pounds. The brain is a human being’s intelligence control center, interpreter of a person’s senses, initiator of body movement, and controller of behavior. The brain stops growing at around 15 years of age.
Our brain processes pain signals, however, the brain itself is unable to sense any pain.
6. Lungs make up one of the largest organs in your body. Working hand-in-hand with the respiratory system, our lungs aid in inhalation, exhalation and in speaking. The left lung is a bit smaller than the right lung in size; the extra space created on the left leaves room for the heart.
Lungs consist of over 300,000 million capillaries. If they were laid out, our lungs would span 1,500 miles.
7. Blood vessels, which are responsible for transporting blood throughout the body comprise of arteries, veins, capillaries and sinusoids. If all the blood vessels in human body were placed end to end, they would circle the globe with a combined length of over 25,000 miles.
7 new miles of blood vessels are added to the body for every pound of fat gained.
8. In a female’s ovaries, there are over 500,000 eggs but only 400 of them will ever get the chance to create a life.
An average man’s testicles produce 10 million new sperm cells every day. That’s enough new sperm to repopulate the entire planet in only 6 months!
9. Hair grows out of follicles and does so in phases. While 90% of the hair on your head is in a ‘growing’ phase, 10% is in a ‘resting’ phase. Hair grows everywhere on the human skin except on the palms of our hands and the soles of our feet. Beards are the fastest growing hair.
If the average man never trimmed his beard, it could grow to 30 feet over the course of his lifetime.
10. The body skeleton is made up of bones. More than half the bones in the body are located in the hands and feet. Your jawbone is the hardest bone in the body. Leg bones are very large and strong because they help support the weight of the body. The femur which is the bone that goes from your pelvis to your knee is the longest bone in your body.
Human bone (especially the femur) is about 4 times stronger than concrete.
