Montenegro, a country in Southeast Europe, shares borders with Croatia to the west, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the northwest, Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, and Albania to the southeast.

As of 2024, Montenegro’s population is estimated at nearly 600,000 (CIA World Factbook). Its capital city is Podgorica.

Montenegro has been a member of NATO since 2017 and is currently a candidate for European Union membership.

Montenegro agenda

The country’s prime minister, Milojko Spajić, who is 38 years old and one of the world’s youngest heads of government, took office in October 2023. Under his leadership, the government is focused on strengthening Montenegro’s international standing and accelerating efforts toward EU integration.

In October 2025, journalist Hala Gorani conducted an interview with Prime Minister Spajić for Fortune Magazine, to discuss his government’s vision for Montenegro and the steps being taken to position the country as a significant player in Europe.
